Umpires
Umpires
Without an umpire, there isn’t a game!
Uddingston Hockey Club is dedicated to upleveling all our players, parents and volunteers to becoming an umpire, which is an essential element in every game of hockey.
Level 1 Course
Anyone who would like to qualify as an umpire must first sit a level one course. The club will provide an umpiring mentor to guide you throughout the practical process. Initially, candidates are shown correct positioning on the pitch and scenarios at penalty corners and strokes. Candidates progress to practice at specified games with their mentor until they demonstrate the necessary standard to pass the practical test.
The Rules
No matter what grade of umpire you are, you need to know the rules. Every umpire can refresh their knowledge of the rules: 1. You can download the rules and guidance from the Scottish Hockey website:
2. Download the free FIH - Rules of Hockey App on Google Play or Apple Store which is available on android and iOS. This app has a highly recommended quiz, which is very useful for beginners or anyone who would like to refresh their knowledge.
Further Learning
Modules for both beginners and existing umpires can be found on Scottish Hockey Website.
HELP - For any further information regarding umpiring you can contact umpire development officer Emma Reid.
